Artist Biography
Christian Royal is a 15-year-old potter-in-training who was born with Down Syndrome. Creek Bend Pottery is handcrafted pottery merchandise by Christian Royal. Christian creates stoneware products with the charm of things imperfect and simple. IN contrast to most kitchenware, which is symmetrical, Christian's pottery is delightfully irregular, utilizing glazes and decorative approaches-formed with the use of foliage and stamp impressions, asymmetrical line drawings and bruishwork. Creek Bend Pottery is the craftwork resulting from the emerging skills of a talented amn with an intellectual disability.Christian began pottery lessons in the autumn of 2006. He has shown a special interest and developed an aptitude in slab-built pottery. Both design and decorative are being refined gradually while maintaining the intent of simple, striking, and desireable pieces. In time, Christian will acquire the skills and techniques of wheel-thrown pottery. His training as a potter are the gradual beginnings of an aspiration to provide Christian with a vocational opportunity envisioned to give his life a sense of value and meaning and identity in society.
