Kevin G. Jackson stated,
"Love of jazz and
all things musical are the inspiration for my latest
series of paintings. I come from a long line of artists,
my grandmother painted watercolor and oil until a couple of
months before she died in December 2007. A painter of houses
and a carpenter by day, most of my free time is spent in the art
studio, listening to jazz and painting."
Kevin has donated two original art pieces for the gala.
The first is titled, Upright Bass and is Oil on
canvas board. The 12x 12 piece represents the silhouette of bass
player scrapped and scratched in layer after layer of different
oil colors. Frame hand crafted by artist.
The second is titled, Trumpet #6 . This 11X14 oil on board masterpiece is defined by Mr. Jackson as, a silhouette of a trumpet player scrapped and scratched in layer after layer of different oil colors. This is number 6 in a series of 10 paintings. Frame hand crafted by artist.

Windmill Palm Trees
(Trachycarpus fortunei) can be grown almost anywhere,
from your patio, beside a pool and even golf courses!
They flourish in full sun and grow large with tall,
slender trunks. The waxy leaves are bright green above
and silver-green below; growing 2 feet long and 2 feet
wide, smaller than most other palm trees. Windmill palm
trees grow a flower stalk 2 feet long, with yellow,
pleasantly aromatic flowers developing into ½" long
blue fruits. The slender, graceful trunks are covered
with brown-black fibers that appear as hair from a
distance, and with aging, the fibers turn gray, and on
large old trees the fibers fall off to reveal a slick
beautiful trunk.

J. Daniel Cloud was trained as a journalist and photographer, but over the past 15 years has pursued many vocations while continuing to pursue his journalism career. These have included stints as a landscaper, an emergency room x-ray assistant, a tree surgeon, an adjunct professor of English, a deckhand on tow boats on the Tennessee River, and a coffee shop barista.
He is currently working on his first novel in Columbia, taking a break from journalism after three years as editor of a Washington, D.C.-based newspaper. He has won several awards from the Associated Press for both photography and writing.

The photo was taken during a Spring sunrise at Edisto Beach State Park. The sun hits the Atlantic Ocean, creating a silver sheen which sparkles into the horizon. As the tide retreats, foamy waves crash onto the beach.
