Protection and Advocacy for People with Traumatic Brain Injury (PATBI)
About the Program |
In 1996 the federal Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Program was established. As part of its reauthorization in the Children's Health Act of 2000, an additional grant category was established as the TBI Protection and Advocacy program. This allows P&As to provide advocacy to individuals with TBI. Our P&A was among a limited number of P&As who successfully competed for grants during 2002, the first year of the program. Subsequently, all P&A's were provided with TBI funding. Our emphasis has been on collaboration with agencies and consumer organizations involved with TBI to identify the unique problems facing individuals with TBI. Of particular importance are obtaining needed services in community rather than institutional settings. People eligible for services are those with a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and who meet P&A's annually established priorities. Click here for a list of P&A's 2007-2008 Priorities. Priorities specific to PATBI clients are indicated with a "PATBI" after each criterion.
