P&A presents the following awards annually to honor individuals for their advocacy efforts. Becky Jackson Self Advocacy Award The Jackson Self Advocacy Award was created in 2003 in honor of Ms. Jackson who fought tirelessly and successfully when a service delivery system denied her the choice of living independently. A candidate for this award must reflect the strong qualities shown by Ms. Jackson Robert D. Spencer Volunteer Advocate Award The Spencer Volunteer Award is given in recognition of Mr. Spencer's extensive accomplishments as a volunteer. This award has been presented since 1979 to a volunteer who has provided outstanding volunteer advocacy service to P&A. A candidate must provide volunteer advocacy in areas of disability beyond those directly affecting the candidate or the candidate's family. Louise R. Ravenel Parent Advocate Award The Ravenel Awardwas created in honor of the founding Executive Director of P&A who entered the advocacy world as the parent of a child with a disability. This award has been presented since 1998 to a parent of a P&A client. The parent's advocacy actions must be voluntary, noteworthy, and of critical impact in protecting the rights of their child. Lena Myers Rural and Minority Outreach Award The Myers Award, given in memory of Lena Myers, a former chair of the Minority and Rural Outreach Council, has been presented since 2000 to a volunteer who has substantially contributed in a voluntary capacity to P&A's outreach efforts in minority and/or rural areas of South Carolina in a voluntary capacity. Anthony J. Raymond Award The Raymond Award, in memory of former P&A advocate Anthony Raymond, is given each year to an individual whose work reflects the values, deeds and attitude modeled by Mr. Raymond during his lifetime. A P&A staff member as well as any private citizen is eligible to receive this award. This award has been presented since 1986. |
